Athletic Banquet Planned
by Kenya Fouch, CFHS Athletic Director
The Athletic Department would like to invite you to the 2008 Athletic Banquet which will be held on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:30 pm at Moffatt Dining Hall on the campus of Erskine College. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our student-athletes this school year. Tickets may be purchased at the front office for $8 each for students and $12 each for adults. Tickets will also be available at the door for $15 each. Athletes will be able to attend for free.
Any eligible athlete will also be able to purchase a Calhoun Falls High School letterman jacket. You may contact your child’s coach to find out if he/she has earned an athletic letter. The approximate price of the jackets is $150 and must be paid in full before the order can be placed. Tracy Evans, the Neff Company representative, will be at the school on May 19th to take orders.
We realize that past jackets have been purchased by the booster club. However, the Charter School athletic department will require a great deal of support and all monies being raised at this point will go towards that cause. Therefore, we are putting a freeze on spending for the rest of this school year in order to be in the best possible position for the inaugural Charter School athletic seasons. Thank you for understanding and for your support. As always, feel free to contact me if you have questions and Go Flashes!
Hall of Fame Nomination
Calhoun Falls native and former professional baseball player Neil Chrisley has been nominated for the S.C. Athletic Hall of Fame. Gregg Gibbons, Chrisley's distant cousin, submitted a letter of nomination in December, 2007. In addition, Gibbons is seeking a photo of the baseball field from 1940-1950s. "I know that the baseball field is still there with basic chain-link fences and small bleachers. Neil and others describe how the stands and dugouts used to be much grander and the outfield fence was made of tall wooden boards," he said. If you have a copy, you can contact info@calhounfallstoday.com.

Softball Uniforms
Darlene Cox submitted this photo, stating "This is a picture of some of the girls on the softball team. It is not all of the girls, just the ones who happened to be standing there at the time. We wanted everyone to be able to see what the uniforms look like that they helped to pay for."
Bryant Verbally Commits to Clemson
Calhoun Falls' Martavis Bryant gave a verbal committment February 23 to play football at Clemson, according to coach Kenya Fouch. The 6'4", 180lb, wide receiver had 47 catches for 803 yards and two touchdowns in 2007. He runs a 4.41 40-yard dash.
"New Name, Same Game"
by Lee Boggs
If all approvals are received, the Imagine Calhoun Falls Charter School will be the new home of the Blue Flashes, starting fall, 2008. But to field sports, the community will be responsible for raising the cash.
While this may seem a daunting task for a small community where the school district is the largest employer, supporters attending the public meeting Sunday, March 2, said raising the money - and the equipment - will be the easy part.
The community has already raised close to $10,000. Alumni attending the Old Calhoun Falls High School Reunion recently raised $1,150.
Several fundraisers are planned for the next three months: a hot dog plate sale, bass and golf tournaments, and yard sales.
Brantley Wood designed a Blue Flashes logo for t-shirts sales, incorporating the "New Name, Same Game" slogan, proposed by Suzanne Sorrow Hatchell. Other schools are helping. Washington-Wilkes in Georgia has donated 36 shoulder pads, and others are making offers.
Time is the hard part. With football practice in August, committee spokesperson Keith Ashley said, now is the time for fundraising.
"We can't wait until August 1," he said. "We have to start working on this now because August will be too late."
Anybody wishing to make a donation can take it to Capital Bank or Town Hall.

Christ Church, a top ranked-seed, has beat Dixie, 65-31, and Chesterfield, 71-48.
New Season Brings a “Little” Luck
by Hunter Cooper
With the diamond heating up this spring, things seem a “little” different. The word Little seems to be on everyone's lips this year, and not in reference to team size or supposed waning enrollment. More along the lines of Daniel Little, the former Abbeville all-star and Erskine standout has taken charge of the Calhoun Falls Blue Flashes baseball team for the 2008 season. Along side Little will be king of the hill Bryce Seymour of Toccoa Falls.
With only one senior on the team, leadership has been hard to come by, but the younger players are stepping up. The roster is deep considering the numbers in previous seasons, and based on their performance in one scrimmage, this season could be memorable for the young players.
Preparing for a packed region schedule and preseason, the Flashes started conditioning through individual workouts in November, and are now in full swing of preseason preparation. With scheduled scrimmages against 2A foes Crescent and Saluda, the competition should help to build the program. With new coaches, a new season, and a “Little” luck, anything is possible.
Region Champions
The Calhoun Falls Lady Flashes won the region title Monday with a 51-47 win over Tamassee-Salem. Brittany Obot, with an average of 15 points, five rebounds, four steals, two assists, and one block in region play, is the Region 1-A Player of the Year. Risha Bomar is the Coach of the Year.

Soccer and Football
Calhoun Falls High School AD Kenya Fouch is starting a soccer team, which will begin practice in January. In football, all-regions honors were given to Chaz Jones, David Bryant, Martavis Bryant, and Channing Kennedy. Chaz and Martavis made the All-Lakelands team. Team Stats
